Mag wheels
I bought new pair of mag wheels for my bike. It's a six spoke Dai-ichi with two tone colors blue and white.
When it was mounted, the front tyre is not free wheeling. The mechanic said that it's the disc brake that's
causing the problem and only needs to be run-in. When I seeked a second opinion, we've verified that it's
some part of the axle that's causing the friction. When I got home, I dismantled the thing and found out that
a bushing was improperly mounted. I refitted the the bushing and viola! it's now a-ok.
LESSON NUMBER 1 - don't always believe what the mechanic says.
IRC Tyre
I also changed my rear tyre. I'd opted this time to go for a harder compound tyre so I chose IRC instead
of going for a Dunlop TT90x. I bought a 90/80x17 tyre and had it fitted. I already took it for a spin when
I found out on the tyre's side wall that it should be used for the front of the bike. I called the shop
where I bought it if I could have it replaced ... they would, but only if I kept the receipt and packaging.
I still got the receipt but the packaging had already gone to the recycle bin. Too bad, I had to use the tyre.
There were no problems reported by the one's who use the same type of tyre on the rear, but I'm a
conformance freak.
LESSON NUMBER 2 - Always keep your receipt and packaging.
LESSON NUMBER 3 - Some shops don't know what they sell. Always check thoroughly what you're buying.
Track day preparation
All these component upgrades are in preparation for a weekend track-day. After having a seafood dinner with
some friends, I immediately worked on the bike after I got home. I removed the pillion pegs, side stand,
side mirrors and kick start of the bike. I also prepared some packing tape to tape up the headlights and
tail lights once we get to the track. I finished at 12 and went to rest. A couple of hours later, my track
buddies are already up and calling me on the cellphone. When I got up to prepare to meet up with them,
a major problem was evident when I faced the mirror. The problem is my FACE!!! I'm all swollen. It seems that
the prawns we've had for dinner had bitten me back. Allergies!!! I hopped on my bike and went to the meeting
place. I informed my ride buddies that I won't be able to join them. I went back home to rest the entire
morning. My first track day was then converted to an hour at the golf driving range in the afternoon. Too bad,
all the preparations I did for my first track day went to naught.
