Let's go!
It's a Saturday, and my alarm clock went off around 5 am. We're going to hit the twists of Marilaque today
to hone our cornering skills on a motorbike. My cell phone was ringing, it's my ride buddy for the day. Oh no!
I've snoozed again and now I'm gonna be way late for our target take-off time. He said he's gonna wait so I took
a quick bath and hit the roads. Oops! the bike's low on fuel. I just hoped I will make it to the meeting point
and just fill there. As I hit the road, the sky looks good and it's going to be a fine day to ride.
Twisties
The bike managed to make it to the meeting point at the Shell gas station at Marcos Highway. I grabbed some coffee
for my day's dose of caffeine. At 7:30 am, we're on the road to the canyons. There was minimal traffic at the
market place leading up the mountain. We were joined on the road by a tuned Toyota Rav4. It's the first time
I saw a 4 wheeler keep up with our bikes on acceleration and twisty roads. After getting past the populated
areas, It's time to put the pedal to the metal ... err ... the throttle to the handle. The road's are a lot cleaner
than it was before and there were only a couple of stray dogs on the road. We arrived at the usual stop over point
and took some photo shots. The winds were so strong and there was a sudden blow that knocked the two of us down
while standing. My helmet also fell off from my bike and I ran for it to keep it from rolling further down the road.
Survival instincts
On the way back, I took a corner so, so wrong and overshot a right hander corner. I was not just simply going over
to the opposing lane but rather I almost went over the other edge of it. Survival instincts kicked in and I took
my right foot off the pegs. Since I took off my foot, now I don't have a rear brake. I have to scrub off much of my
speed using just the front brakes. If I went to the dirt doing this, I'd surely be low siding the bike.
I was so lucky that I just managed
to keep bike on the road and there was no vehicle on the opposite lane. It was just a glitch though and we
continued to throttle to the max on the way down. We were already at Petron by 9:40 am, took a break and headed home.
It was a good stress reliever after a tough week. Next time, join us.
